Protect Marriage -- Ban Divorce

Opponents of gay marriage often have said that the institution of marriage should be protected and have used this mantra to justify their opposition to gay couples obtaining the right. As I have written before, the real threat to the institution of marriage isn't gay marriage at all, but divorce.

Now there is a movement, although be it a small one, to ban divorces in California. This tactic to save marriage is logical. The only thing that ends marriage, straight or gay, is divorce. By prohibiting divorce, the problem of "saving" marriage is solved. Then the argument against gay marriage should dissolve away. Yeah right, if it were only that simple.

Well, that might be wishful thinking but the resolution of banning divorce would truly solve the issue; however the truth is, this argument by gay marriage opponents is only a smoke screen. They really don't want to protect the institution of marriage, they are just using the issue to justify their bigotry. If the opponents really wanted to save marriage they would sign on to the idea of banning divorce. And now they have the chance to put their money where their mouths are.

A straight, married web designer from Sacramento California has started a Facebook petition to gather signatures in an effort to bring his initiative to the 2010 ballot. If he receives 694,354 valid signatures by March 22, 2010 then his proposed constitutional amendment will be put to a vote. To support the cause follow this link to Protect Marriage! Ban Divorce!

There comes a time in your married life when you must do something or else your marriage is going to end in divorce. You can read all the save my marriage books that you want to but until you recognize the problem you cannot solve the problem. How do you narrow down all the problems that have began to accumulate to find the one problem that caused all of this?

Well, I think you're right in part because many people that I know are against same-sex unions but are okay with divorce. I guess I must be ULTRA-conservative, because I'm opposed to same-sex unions and I'm opposed to divorce. I'd be glad if it were made illegal! There just isn't enough support for that to happen any time soon.

I'm so tired of hearing people say that they are again same sex unions. Really? You are against people want to commit to each other? You don't care what they do behind closed doors but God forbid they make a commitment? What same sex couples want to do is really none of your business. How about you just state the obvious that you don't like homosexuality. Because when it comes down to it, that is really what they are all saying. Is a promise to love someone really the thing that is bothering all of you? Well, either way you need to get over it.
