Update on New Hampshire Gay Marriage Bill

Yesterday, the New Hampshire House of Representatives voted against the changes proposed by Governor Lynch to the same-sex marriage bill. This came on the same day that the state senate voted in favor of the changes. The new bill proposed changes to the same-sex marriage legislation which had been passed by both the state house and senate just last week. Governor Lynch had promised to sign the same-sex marriage legislation if only some minor changes were made to further protect religious liberties.

All is not lost, yet. House members expressed concern about voting for changes that they hadn't had time to review and research. So many voted against the changes simply over that issue; while, many original supporters were not present for the latest vote.

Now the bill will go to a conference committee before heading back to both the state senate and house once more. One of the state representatives said that this is part of the process and indicated that he still expects the legislation to be approved. Hopefully this is only a temporary setback and will still advance with agreement on both sides. New Hampshire is so close with a promise from the Governor to sign the bill into law. Let's not let a few technicalities stop the progress.
